An October Snow

A significant snowfall in October is pretty rare in southern Pennsylvania, but this past weekend's storm was just as nice as it was surprising. I love snow days. There are few things more pleasant to me than being so compelled to stay home. We did take a small venture out into the weather early-afternoon, just a drive through town to get out a bit, pick up some lunch and hot chocolate, and see the snowy scenery. The snow piled on the autumn-hued leaves that still filled many of the trees was an unusual sight, and we noticed several fallen tree branches, the limbs unable to support the heavy, wet snow caught by all the remaining leaves. Perhaps because it was so early in the season, or maybe because it was the weekend, the roads were untouched; no attempt had been made to salt or plow them at all. After returning home, we passed the rest of the day eating Chinese take-out, watching movies, and playing in the snow—enjoying the time with little else but comfort on the agenda, and spending a snow day just as it should be.
